Another ''Tree of Life'' canvas painting, this time in a landscape position, and the bird is not so blue. I love how it looks on my black wall, but it is for sale. Lots of glazes of yellows, greens and orange in the background, with sienna,umber, and viridian in the tree. No metallic this time, but there is still a glow, just more subtle.

After Gustav Klimt's painting, as in the first one I did, I replaced the blackbird with a bluebird, then carried that blue throughout the painting for interest and highlight. The under painting is metallic gold, with green glazes.

What I love about commissions is the creative process, and this was fun so I can't resist posting it. The client wanted a Marie Antoinette inspired cake. The first sketch I did she was wearing a crown, but as I looked at reference photos I began to realize she never wore a crown. I'm always very happy to hear someone say that they want it whimsical and out of the box.

Just recently I said that I don't like to give them a title, because I didn't want to limit the viewer. What I didn't say was that very often a phrase or a word or a thought or a lyric will inspire me to do a painting, either representational or abstract, and then I will give it that title. I often work on more than one painting at a time, for many reasons, and today into my mix I will give my painting a name ''Pink Doors''. We'll see.

was not happy with the painting for some reason, maybe i'm just not excited about a fun painting with neutral colors......... so i changed the background to a high key green and like it so much better. it wasn't easy for me to steer away from pinks, and i'm not sure why i did, but i know it will be perfect for someone. click the top two pics to see the texture achieved with a palette knife.

The problem I have noticed with many of my paintings that start out with under paintings (I paint using a few different techniques) is that I often want to stick with the underpainting, and not move on. This is what happened with the silver spoon, the blue was just to be an underpainting. I'm glad I moved on with this one, and the hot pink was only left on the bow, but that will change soon, I hope.

this was a pleasant surprise i found while i was groaning over why my petunias were not blooming, they had been so magnificent. can't believe that leaves are already beginning to fall.

started out with a charcoal sketch, which of course does not stay down very long, and i can't bear the smell of retouch varnish, but it gives me a good visual of placements before putting down the paint.

monochromatic at this point, not sure if i'll glaze color over when completed or not.

I've finally returned yesterday from my New Jersey trip and can post some of the paintings I've been doing for a local showing. They are all small chunky stretched canvas. 4 in x 4 in x 1.5 in.

Lips, an oil painting

this may be hard to believe, but i started out sketching Bruce Springsteen's lips from an old Rolling Stone cover, i love that underbite. male lips done in charcoal on paper turned into pink in oil on canvas. i really never know how things are going to turn out. it works well for my personality.

the last pic shows the small chunky canvas.....a 4 in square gallery wrapped canvas with 1.5 in depth.

artist grade oil paints, no mediums for faster drying so it will be a bit before i can glaze.
